Whether you are looking for a new home for your family or just a seasonal place to hang your hat when taking vacations, Salt Lake City is a wonderful place to live. There are many options available to you and as far as purchasing housing is concerned, it is now a buyers market more than ever before. There are many different neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, each providing a unique atmosphere and different amenities for you and your family.

Glendale is an excellent place to house-hunt. Contained in this small stretch of land is the Clark Planetarium, with daily star shows and other exhibits for your family. This is a popular area for established and new families alike. If this does not sound appealing to you, or you are simply looking for something different, give Downtown Salt Lake City a try.

The development of the downtown area of Salt Lake City originated from Temple Square, which is the site of the states first Mormon church. Now, the temple rests on the same city block as the arena, which is home to a lot of events, including Utah’s famous Jazz shows and other great things for the family. This area is great for younger families looking to find a home, but also wanting to enjoy the night life.

Whichever option you choose when buying a home in Salt Lake City, search with your agent to see if it is right for you.

Salt Lake City rests in a valley near the Great Salt Lake. The town is known for its temples and its religion, but it is not as dogmatic as many people fear. Although the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes its home in the city, the population of the city is only 40 percent Mormon. The horror stories people here from outside of Utah apply to the Provo area.

When looking for a home in the Salt Lake City area, you need to know where you want to live, how much you want to spend, and what size of home you are looking for.You can find a quick rundown here There are suburban homes on the edges of the city as well as in the suburbs. If you want a backyard and the ability to barbecue, you cannot move into the downtown area. If you want apartment living and the night life, the downtown area is exactly where you want to be.

If you need someone to help you find a good home in the area, you should contact one of the local real estate agents. The real estate agents can help you find exactly what you are looking for. Just remember all the streets in Salt Lake City are designated by how far away they are from the temple.

Buying a home, whether it be your first home or a second home, is very exciting. Renting is nice because you do not have the responsibility of the upkeep of a home and if something breaks down, its just a phone call away to the landlord. To me though, nothing beats home ownership, you have the sense of when you work on the place, its yours and you are going to be there a while. The Salt Lake City area is a perfect place to hunt for that home. There are so many options out there to get you in a home. Bank Foreclosures are a good way to start, because the prices of the homes are usually a little lower and more affordable. The next reason to buy is the interest rates are so low right now, making home ownership less expensive than renting these days. Banks also have a lot of different options as far as the length of the mortgages, adjustable rate mortgages, which are loans where the interest rates can move up, and down for a course of so many years. However you find that home, whichever way you go, you cannot go wrong in the Salt Lake City area.

Home ownership is great. However, owning a home located in The Great Salt Lake area is even better. They say, “Location, Location, Location” and they are correct. There is nothing worse than finally owning a home in an area that you want to move out of. When looking to buy a house price is important, but so is location. The best of both worlds is when you can find a house in your budget in the location you dream of.

Looking for a house that meets your needs, and fits your budget is going to take a team of professionals that are working for you. You need a real estate agent that will look high and low for the right home for you. You need a personal banker that will bend over backwards to get you the money that you need to buy the dream house. Having someone work over the scenarios of different interest rates, points and length of the loan is going to make a huge benefit.

One more option that you will want to look into when looking for a house will be to contact your municipalities’ health and human services office and see if they have any resources for you to contact. Many states are offering deals right now, but you just have to know who to ask.

If you’re looking for your dream home in the Salt Lake City area, a good place to start is with the internet. There are various sites that take your home searching criteria (including price range, neighborhood, number of bedrooms, size of garage and more) and search the listings for you. You can even sign up to have notifications delivered to your inbox on a daily or weekly basis or whenever a new listing is posted.
The more traditional way to go is to use a real estate agent. Look in your phone book or go through the local association for agents to find someone to represent you, and they will keep an eye on the listings with your criteria in mind. Probably the best way to find an agent you’ll enjoy working with is by taking recommendations from friends.
Remember that the Salt Lake City area has many cities to choose from. Those wanting a more urban life can choose to look for homes in the actual city limits, but remember homes there will be more expensive. Looking in the outlying suburbs, like Alpine, Bountiful, South Jordan and more, will potentially allow you to get more home for your money.

For consumers who want to make home ownership a reality instead of a dream, the best way that you can do this is by searching for lenders who are more likely to work with first time home buyers, and lenders that have lower standards then the traditional lenders. A great company to look into to help you buying your Salt Lake home is the FHA, and they are helping thousands of consumers each and every day. After you have found a good lender and you have gotten approved, you are going to want to start shopping the market by yourself or with a realtor.

Although you may want to max your budget, it is best not to. Home ownership is an investment, and you want to make the best investment that you can. You want to find a home that is for sale under its property value so that you can get some instant equity into the property, and the bank will be more willing to approve this home mortgage. Repossessed houses are a great option to look at, along with homes on the market for short sale. Home buying can become a reality instead of just a dream following these simple tips.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has provided a list of helpful tips should you be in fear of facing foreclosure.Their first tip is to not ignore the problem, stating that the longer you wait to address it, the more difficult it will be to correct it. If you get mail from your lender, open it. If it asks you to call them, call them. In reality, lenders would rather have a conversation with you to determine ways to help you keep your house than to have your house back in their inventory. Before making the call, however, HUD recommends that you find all your loan documents and read them to the point that you understand them. Information is power and you need to be informed. It’s also critical at this juncture (or even before you fear you may be facing foreclosure) that you contact a HUD-approved housing counselor to discuss your particular situation and explore options and resources. All of the following agencies have been approved by them and appear on their website:

Cedar City Housing Authority 435.586.8462 (364 South 100 East, Cedar City)

AAA Fair Credit Foundation 800.351.4195 (95 East Pages Lane, Centerville)

Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation 436.753.1112 (195 West Golf Course Rd., Logan)

USU Family Life Center HFC 435.797.7224 (493 North 700 East, Logan)

Community Development Corporation 801.994-7222 (501 East 1700 South, SLC)

Neighborworks 801.539-1590 (622 W 500 North, SLC)

Salt Lake Community Action Program 801.359.2444 (370 E South Temple, Suite 260, SLC)

Consumer Credit Counseling 435.986.9223 (720 South River Road C-235, St. George)

Last, and most important, you do not need to ever PAY a fee for foreclosure prevention help. It’s HUD’s suggestion that you avoid for-profit companies who may contact you offering to help for a fee when there is free help available and your money can best be spent to pay the mortgage instead!

If being environmentally conscious is as important to you as home ownership, then you’ll probably enjoy visiting the Utah House located at the Utah Botanical Center in Kaysville, just off Interstate 15. The Utah House is Utah State University Extension’s sustainable building demonstration and educational center whose mission is to educate and empower the public (and homeowners) about the many new methods being used to construct and upgrade homes while also promoting energy efficiency, healthy indoor environments, universal design principles, water conservation and the sustainable use of available resources. If you’re interested in accessing some of the resources available from the Utah House but can’t actually visit the facility, you can check their website to obtain informational materials pertaining to composting, energy conservation, water conservation, solar resources, and more. If you can visit in person, the facility is open Monday through Friday from 1-5pm and Saturday from 10am 1pm. There is a suggested donation of 2 to help maintain the facility and continue to offer its outreach, education, and innovations.
