A Place to Call Home: Family Profile

The Affordability Project is designed to assist low-income, first-time homebuyers who have been shut out of the housing market.  The CDC has convened a Selection Committee to assist us in identifying eligible buyers for Affordability Project homes. Members of the Committee include representatives of the Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities, Inner City Project, and Travelers Aid Society.
First Affordability Project Client: Cory B., a father of a four year old daughter, has worked hard to meet the challenges of an accident in 1998 that left him in a wheelchair.  Since the accident Cory has gone through physical rehabilitation, participated in a retraining program, has been employed for nearly two years, and worked to reduced his debt.  Cory also has shared custody of his daughter. Cory worked with CDC staff to make modifications to the house before it was built, to meet his special needs.  Corey will be moving from a Transitional Living Center apartment when his new home is completed in early 2002.

building alliances, Sharing resources

One good idea leads to another. The Affordability Project Warehouse is an opportunity for the CDC to build new alliances with other organizations who also serve the housing needs of low-income families.
We are pleased to announce that the Inner City Project of the Church of Jesus Christ of  Latter Day Saints will be able to use the Affordability Project Warehouse for storing their own project supplies. We are also exploring other ways we can  join forces and strengthen our individual programs with the Inner City Project and other organizations.
