Pre Fabricated Steel-Framed Walls

Pre-fabricated wall systems can save labor costs associated with building a home. Typically shop labor is less than construction site labor. In addition, on-site time is saved when putting up the walls.

  • The strength of steels allows for larger spans (fewer studs used) and construction time is decreased because stud quality is consistent and high quality.
  • Steel framing for internal and external walls using the same gauge (20 gauge) steel decreases inventory complexity and fabricating equipment.
  • There is potential for decreasing other costs by placing wiring and plumbing during the pre-fabrication phase.
  • Steel framed construction typically produces significantly less job site waste - 2% for steel compared to 20% for lumber. Less waste volume translates into lower tipping fees at landfills and less waste going to landfills.
  • Steel waste is 100% recyclable and can be easily recycled in Utah.
  • The price of steel has been less volatile than lumber, when lumber prices increase steel may be a less expensive option.
