Three Helpful Resources

One of the first steps to success in anything in life is to do your research and get connected with like-minded people who share common visions and interests. And so it’s true when it comes to accessing affordable housing resources.As such, we provide the following overview on three of the most active and resourceful organizations for you to research to determine if their outreach might benefit you and your quest.

  1. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization with the mission of building simple, decent, affordable, houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity has launched an Environmental Initiative in keeping with a focus on sustainability. Their site is incredibly resourceful and should be bookmarked, and their page pertaining to applying for a house is full of information.
  2. HUD (the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) has a wealth of information availability such as its 136-page Programs of HUD that describes major rental, mortgage, grant, other assistance, and regulatory programs of the Department, and it’s through these programs that the organization works to strengthen the housing market and bolster the economy. Their site has information specific to affordable housing, housing financing, fair housing, and sustainable housing.
  3. Community Development Corporation of Utah (CDCU) was founded in 1990 to provide solutions for distressed neighborhoods in Salt Lake City. Since its inception the organization has helped more than 4000 families throughout Utah and they stand aligned with HUD to administer its Asset Control Area program. Check them out for their commitment to education via their offering of Homebuyer Education Workshops, Pre-Purchase Counseling and more.

Of course there are more resources and we’ll be covering those in upcoming entries; but these are what we consider to be the big three that you should definitely earmark as sources for inspiration, guidance, and motivation.
